Tandberg Storage is a globally focused company, developing and manufacturing advanced data storage products based on the LTO standard. The half height LTO drives offered by Tandberg Storage fully comply with the requirements of the corresponding LTO format standards, allowing quick and reliable exchange of tape cartridges with drives from other LTO drive manufacturers. The high quality and competitive pricing of the its half height tape drives have given the company a world wide market share of estimated 23% in 2006.
Tandberg Storage was established as an independent company 1. October 2003, and was formerly a part of Tandberg Data ASA. Tandberg Storage continues the extensive technological development conducted by Tandberg Data and Tandberg Radio Factory during the last 30 years.
Currently Tandberg Storage has 54 employees in Oslo (including the company O-Mass, see below), of which 45 are working in the R&D Department. Manufacturing is done in close partnership with Lafé Peripherals in China. Tandberg Storage sells its products through major OEM Partners world wide.
O-Mass
O-Mass develops advanced read-write head technology, that may allow tape drives to reach a capacity of 10 TBytes (equivalent to 10000 GBytes or 10 million MBytes) and beyond. The company has accomplished a conceptual 2 TBytes demonstration and has now redirected its effort towards achieving technology endorsement from at least one major global tape drive vendor.
Tandberg Storage ASA owns 93.5%, and Imation Corporation (MN, USA) owns 6.5% of the shares in O-Mass.
